Perspective: The Lens through which we see things and process what has happened in life.
A new move is coming out this week called Vantage Point. Its about 8 people who witnessed the president or some presidential type getting shot. Then the mayhem that follows such a dastardly deed.
Its has been said that if all you do in coaching is help re-frame perspective for your clients, you will be successful.
The past or very recent outcomes will not have changed, but the way the client handles and moves forward from those events will be profoundly impacted. And I hope for the better.
Another key concept or word in perspective is choice. Choice is power, freedom of choice is a right that should not be given up so lightly.
When I was in elementary school, i used to just eat the plain old school lunches. That means, aside from the kosher meals, which i usually did not partake in, me and a hundred other kids all had the same thing. Melted Ham and Cheese, tater tots, and a milk. We didnt have a choice, except maybe chocolate milk or plain.
Then the lucky kids were the ones who brought their lunches. It was high society, from the fancy lunch boxes and pouches they brought to the special sandwiches with the crust cut off. Puddings and fruit, maybe even a special beverage that made milk look, well vanilla. :)
They had a choice, their mom asked them what do you want for lunch this week. And they had choices. The rest of us were at the mercy of the lunch lady who planned the meals.
We weren't malnourished or exploited, but the extent to which we lived and experienced "lunch" was vastly different.
You have a choice. Even in your youth, you had a choice. For something better. When did you start to settle for mediocre life, with mediocre and subpar relationships, and just plain old vanilla living?
I promise not to use vanilla again for at least another week, mainly because i have too much respect for "Breyers Vanilla Ice Cream with bean specks", to continue to use it when i mean boring. There's nothing boring about the world's best vanilla ice cream.
Back to where I was... When did someone take that space cadet kid who was going to cure the world's illnesses and replace him with a time card punching drone who wasn't going to rock the boat because he is 4 years away from vesting and pension stage?
Perspective is important to take the lemons life gives us, and make a glass half full of lemonade. The part that no one mentions, is the other half is filled with perfectly shaped ice cubes that will keep this magicical lemonade close to freezing point as possible, so you can be refreshed.
Perspective is power, and reframing is the conduit.
If all you do is reframe what just happened, you will be better than alright.
I know i have to improve how I interpret life's happenings, and prepare myself for success.
I was rambling a bit much today.
